City seeks input into Age Friendly strategy

The City is calling on the local community to help shape its second Age Friendly Strategy.

The strategy will guide the City of Bayswater’s approach to becoming an Age Friendly City and will build on the successes of the City’s first Age Friendly Strategy 2017-2021. The first strategy was developed after Cr Catherine Ehrhardt took the motion to Council 5 years ago.

The City of Bayswater will be hosting a series of pop up listening posts at Hawaiian's Noranda shopping centre on Friday 23 April from 9.30am to 12.30pm, Morley Galleria shopping centre on Thursday 29 April, 10am to 2pm and at Bayswater and Morley Community Centres to gather feedback from the community.

Mayor Dan Bull encouraged community members to get along to one of the pop ups and share their ideas for an Age Friendly City.

"One in six people in the City of Bayswater is aged 65 years and over, so it is important we make the City the most positive place it can be for our older community members.

“The purpose of the Age Friendly Strategy is to provide a four year action plan that identifies key priorities and future initiatives that support and enhance the health and wellbeing of older people living, working or visiting the City of Bayswater.

“It is really important we hear from older people, carers, people with older family members, service providers, and the wider community, so we can make sure the strategy is relevant and meets the needs of the community.

“The pop up listening posts will be attended by our Age Friendly Ambassadors and complement a survey that will be open from 1 April until Monday 3 May.

To have your say visit engage.bayswater.wa.gov.au and complete the online survey, pick up a hard copy from the City’s administration building or one of our three libraries, or give us a call on 9272 0622 and we’ll post a copy to you.

Mayor Dan Bull said the success of the City’s first Age Friendly Strategy and the establishment of the award winning Age Friendly Ambassador network were the first steps towards the City becoming an Age Friendly City.

"In becoming an Age Friendly City we want to see people of all ages live healthy and independent lives for as long as possible, and experience a secure and supportive environment which enables them to continue participating in and contributing to the greater community as they grow older.

The City will also host a community workshop on Friday 14 May from 10am to 12:30pm, at the City of Bayswater Civic Centre. To express an interest in attending, email: mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au or call 9270 4107.
