Mayor Dan Bull, Cr Filomena Piffaretti and Cr Sally Palmer joined representatives from Netball WA and the Noranda Netball Association to celebrate the official opening of the new Noranda netball courts on Saturday, 29 May. Professional West Coast Fever players Jess Anstiss and Sunday Aryang were special guests at the opening.

The completion of the Noranda netball courts redevelopment project was funded through the City's $5.09 million local economic and social stimulus package which aimed to fast track projects to support the local community. The redevelopment included the resurfacing of the 16 netball courts, new fencing around the perimeter, new energy saving LED sports floodlighting and improved drainage and kerbing were all part of the project completed at Garson Court in Noranda.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said the redevelopment of the popular sporting facility was a huge win for netball teams and supporters.

"We are absolutely pumped to be able to support our local netball community with this major upgrade, which is a win on so many levels," he said.

"Noranda is the home of netball in Perth's inner-eastern suburbs. The Noranda Netball Association comprises 15 clubs, who train and play on the courts every week.

"Not only will the redevelopment attract more players to netball and boost the profile of the sport, it will raise the standard of competition for local clubs and increase player safety.

"The brand new surface has been designed with safety front of mind. The sub-surfaces of the courts have been stripped back, reconstructed and top-coated to ensure safe play in line with Netball WA standards.
"Sport is a great avenue for all ages to get active and social and we're really pleased to be able to contribute to building a connected community through projects like this.

"By upgrading the courts, the Association has the opportunity to host carnivals and invite other associations to compete.

"I am looking forward to a strong season of competition ahead. The first few games of the 2021 winter netball season kicked off on 8 May and players are thrilled with the new playing surface. I'd
encourage you to head down and cheer on your local netball teams.”

The City initially allocated $550,000 in its 2019/20 Budget to the upgrade of the Noranda netball courts, and allocated an additional $850,000 to complete the upgrade via its $5.09 million
local economic and social stimulus package.
