Welcome to the Autumn 2021 edition of the Bayswater Beat

Message from the Mayor

ecent weeks have shown us that the threat of COVID-19 to our community is real - but that by reacting quickly, following the directives of the State Government and working together, we can protect our community and the way of life we have come to know.

My sincere thanks goes to the staff of the City of Bayswater, who worked with the State Government to rapidly open the temporary testing clinic at The RISE. From our cleaners and security teams, to the staff who helped manage traffic, and those who planned the logistics of the operation, your professionalism and commitment to keeping our community safe is commendable.

I also want to thank our community. Thank you for getting tested, for staying home and for staying calm.

This is a big month for the City, as we officially make the transition to FOGO. We are one of the first Western Australian local governments to make the change and I am proud the City is leading the way. By going FOGO, we will divert waste from landfill and create compost instead. This will mean more than half of our household rubbish will be repurposed through either FOGO or recycling, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make a positive and sustainable difference to our environment – something our community and Council are passionate about.

This edition contains all the information you need to make the change, so I encourage you to read it thoroughly and if you need a hand, make sure you contact one of our Waste Educators.

Please stay safe and keep looking after each other.
