The City is developing a Community Recreation Plan to guide the future of its sport and recreational facilities over the next 15 years and is seeking input from the community.

Mayor Dan Bull said the way people use their local parks and reserves is changing.

“Our communities are changing. More people are choosing to exercise outdoors in our parks and reserves, while our facilities are now being leased by community groups for everything from organised sport to hobby activities. With an increasing number of women participating in sport we need to ensure we support them.

“Recreation offers a number of physical, mental and social benefits. Providing our community with a range of recreational opportunities is a high priority for the City.

“We are keen to develop a Community Recreation Plan that considers the needs of all current and future users of our parks, reserves and facilities.

“Our community use our parks, reserves and facilities in so many different ways. From dog walkers to cyclists, sporting teams to running clubs, those who enjoy a game of bridge in one of our community centres or are part of a sewing club – we want to hear from you.

“We would like to know how and where you choose to be active, and how we can improve your recreational experience. This will help us plan for the future.

“To have your say visit engage.bayswater.wa.gov.au and complete the online survey, pick up a hard copy from the City’s administration building or one of our three libraries, or give us a call on 9272 0622 and we’ll post a copy to you.

“To ensure the Community Recreation Plan is informed by the clubs and groups that currently use our sporting reserves and community facilities, the City will be inviting current leaseholders and users of our facilities to provide their feedback directly.

“We want to ensure we allocate our resources in a fair and equitable way.

“We will also be looking at ways to maximise the use of our facilities and how this benefits our community. The Community Recreation Plan will ensure we are best placed to take advantage of future funding opportunities.

“The Community Recreation Plan is aligned with the City’s Play Space Strategy that is currently being rolled out across the City. The survey will close on 30 March.
