On Tuesday 25 May the City adopted its key planning document, the Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031.

Mayor Dan Bull said the City’s new Strategic Community Plan was developed in consultation with the community.

“The Strategic Community Plan captures the City’s vision, priorities and aspirations for the next ten years, as outlined by our community.

“This year we asked our community to ‘shape the future of Baysie’ by participating in a major visioning exercise to help us create our new Strategic Community Plan. During the initial stages of consultation we asked community members to tell us what they liked about living in the City of Bayswater and what they would like us to focus on over the next ten years.

“We gathered feedback during workshops, at events, in shopping centres, online and at our libraries. We also spoke to local businesses and reached out to community groups through our networks.

“The City received feedback that fell under the three broad themes of community, environment and liveability, and vibrancy. Under each theme a number of goals were identified. We worked with the community to identify and prioritise strategies that respond to these themes and goals.

The new Strategic Community Plan considers the changes taking place across the metropolitan area that have a significant impact on the local area. These include a number of State government road and rail projects that are in the planning stage, with new train stations scheduled for construction in Bayswater, Morley and Noranda as part of the METRONET project. The State government also continues to focus on increasing density around transport nodes and activity centres. Main Roads have also planned improvements to the Tonkin Highway corridor to improve the connectivity of the State’s road network.

The community indicated they felt positive about the opportunities these changes presented but were keen to maintain connections within their neighbourhoods.

“The City will continue to advocate on behalf of its community to ensure decisions made at a State level consider the local context.

Community feedback gained during the development of the plan was also used to produce a new vision statement for the City. Our new vision states we are “An inclusive community building a sustainable and thriving City.” Our vision has been included in the new Strategic Community Plan.

“It was wonderful to see so many people contribute to the development of the Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031.

“I would like to thank our community for helping us shape a bright future for our City."
