2021 Garden Awards are now open

The City is calling on residents with a green thumb to share their private slice of paradise, as entries into the 2021 Garden Awards open.

2021 Garden Awards are now open
Sep 13 2021

Now in its 40th year, the annual awards celebrate the talent and innovation of residents contributing to a greener City.

With six categories available to enter, each with prizes up to $300, the awards offer the opportunity for gardeners of all varieties to get involved.

The Best School Garden category places school gardens centre stage, and acknowledges the local school students and gardeners working hard to create green spaces for our kids to enjoy while they learn.

Residents embracing a garden-to-plate lifestyle have an opportunity to show off their leafy greens, and homegrown veggies in the Best Edible Garden category.

Perhaps the most difficult task facing the judges lies in choosing the winner of the Open Garden category, where local gardeners can let their creativity run wild, and perfectly manicured lawns compete against hanging wonderlands and fragrant rose gardens.

Reflecting the City’s commitment to promoting and celebrating sustainable practices, three of this year’s six categories are dedicated to sustainable gardens. Each year, entrants in the Best Sustainable Garden category show us just how rewarding sustainability can be for individuals and the community. That’s why this year, in addition to entering their own sustainable garden, residents have the opportunity to nominate their neighbours for the Most Sustainable Street award. The Best Verge Garden category is also back in 2021, this time with a Waterwise twist.

Residents have until Friday 5 November to complete the entry form found on the City’s website, bayswater.wa.gov.au/gardenawards or send through a picture of their garden and the category they wish to enter to mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au
