Sep 08 2021

The City is on track to complete the redevelopment of Morley Sport and Recreation Centre by the end of October 2021.

The $5.5 million redevelopment includes the construction of two additional basketball courts within a new sports hall, plus new sports floodlighting and pitch realignment on the adjacent rugby fields. As part of stage one, additional toilets and change rooms to service users of the new sports hall will also be installed, and the existing aerobics room to be expanded.

The new sports hall featuring two additional courts is almost complete. FIBA approved remote-controlled hoops, wireless scoreboards and LED match lighting have been installed.

These courts will enable State Basketball League team East Perth Eagles to host home matches on the new show court.

A grandstand for spectators will also be delivered in time for the 2022 winter season.

Additional toilets, first aid room, change rooms and umpire facilities for the new hall are taking shape and the expansion of the aerobics room and gym floor is nearing completion.

New sports match floodlighting and pitch realignment works have been completed on the rugby fields.

What's next?

- Sports flooring for the new sports hall will be laid, line marked and tested;

- Windows and louvres will be installed;

- External all ability access pathway will be completed including landscaping;

- Artwork will be installed on the southern wall to be viewed from Wellington Street;

- Full testing and defect inspection of the redevelopment;

- Spectator grandstand and solar panels will be installed in the summer months

The redevelopment has been made possible with the support of The Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries through a $2 million CSRFF grant with the support of the Member for Morley, the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA and the City's $5.1 million stimulus package.
