A range of free activities will take place from 3-10 July.

NAIDOC Week celebrations in the City
Jun 20 2022

City of Bayswater residents are invited to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of First Nations cultures, histories and achievements through this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the City’s Indigenous history is an important part of who we are.

“We are embracing the theme of Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! by encouraging everyone to actively participate through a range of free City-run events,” she said.

“From library activities such as nyitting (storytelling), Noongar arts and crafts, and language workshops, to a Biddi Wangkiny bushwalk and smoking ceremony, there is something for everyone.

“NAIDOC Week presents a wonderful opportunity to learn from Noongar Elders and leaders.

“We are delighted to have local Balladong Wadjuk Nyungar representative Barry McGuire, Kangeang/Bibblemun woman Belinda Cox, and Noongar artist and language specialist Carol Foley sharing their culture.

“NAIDOC Week is a vitally important time to celebrate those who have driven and led change across communities and generations.

“The City’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan October 2021 – October 2023 highlights our commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful community, where histories, cultures and achievements of First Nations people are celebrated. We celebrate NAIDOC Week as part of this commitment.

“I invite you and your family to join with us and acknowledge this very special occasion.”
