Bayswater residents are invited to nominate individuals and organisations making notable contributions to the community for the 2023 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

The annual awards recognise those living or working in the City of Bayswater who have provided outstanding service to the community in areas such as education, health, sport, arts and any other sector that enhances community wellbeing.

The City has partnered with Auspire to present four categories for the 2023 awards: Citizen of the Year, Youth Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, and Active Citizenship, which recognise the value added to the community by groups or events. The City is also celebrating the important contribution women make to the Bayswater community by presenting a fifth category – Women in Leadership.

Residents have until 31 October to lodge their nominations. The City encourages people and groups from all backgrounds to consider nominating, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, young people, those living with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Awards will be presented at the Community Citizen of the Year Awards ceremony taking place on 26 January 2023.

Last year’s top prize was awarded to Vaughn McGuire, an Elder, leader and educator who is dedicated to helping young people in settings such as mental health, prisons and mines. Vaughn also works alongside organisations such as Rio Tinto and BHP to share Aboriginal culture with the community through Welcome to Country, smoking ceremonies, story and song.
