Message from the Mayor

As everyone comes back from the holidays and returns to work or school, Council also returns to work. We’ve already begun the Budget process, with a strong focus on the long-term financial sustainability of our City. Over the last year, Council has been addressing the financial position of the City with a view to safeguarding and securing the services and projects we all rely on. During the Budget process, I encourage community groups, businesses, residents and ratepayers to get in touch with your local Councillor and have your say on what our City should be focusing on in this Budget. I also encourage you to have your say on crime and community safety within the City as we look to develop a Crime Prevention and Community Safety Plan. Scan the QR code on page 7 to complete the survey before 31 March.

It’s not all hard work though. In February, our community welcomed singing sensation Dami Im to Morley for the highly anticipated Bayswater Community Concert. The concert drew crowds from all around Perth. If you were there, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. In December last year, I officially opened the brand new City of Bayswater Skate Park at Wotton Reserve, Embleton. The $2.5 million skate and BMX facility, funded by the State Government through METRONET, features WA’s biggest half pipe. I encourage you to check it out if you haven’t had the chance – the kids will love it.

In this edition, you can read about our outstanding Community Citizen of the Year Award winners, who are contributing to a better Bayswater through their dedication in the areas of health, safety, youth advocacy, homelessness and music.
