Christmas has come early to Noranda, with festive artworks from local primary school students on display at Hawaiian’s Noranda Shopping Centre until Sunday 20 October, as part of the City’s Christmas Banner Competition.

Held biennially, the City’s Christmas Banner Competition sees primary school students create Christmas-themed artworks, with the top 13 artworks printed onto street banners for display throughout the Bayswater, Morley and Maylands town centres over the Christmas period. The top two entries are also made into Christmas cards for the City’s Elected Members to distribute.

This year, more than 120 students across five primary schools created designs exploring the theme ‘Christmas Around the World’.

On Monday, North Ward Councillors Sally Palmer and Josh Eveson and Central Ward Councillor Assunta Meleca attended the free exhibition at Hawaiian’s Noranda to select the top entries.

Year 5 Morley Primary School student Ava Chen was awarded the overall winner of the competition for her fun, multicultural design, winning $200 Hawaiian’s Noranda VISA gift cards for herself and her school.

Congratulations to the 12 finalists, who each won $50 Hawaiian’s Noranda VISA gift cards for their entries:

  • Neave Kelly (Hillcrest Primary School)
  • Leyla Hasovic (Morley Primary School)
