The City of Bayswater has delivered the final stage of the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre redevelopment, with a new 104-bay carpark improving access for visitors to the busy sporting venue.
The $500,000 project included building the new carpark, resurfacing existing bays, earthworks, service relocations, new accessible footpaths, planting 30 trees and installing three new ACROD bays.
Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the new carpark completes a project that has delivered significant improvements for sport and recreation in Morley.
“This final stage of the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre redevelopment provides the parking needed to support this much-loved facility,” she said.
“The additional bays will ease pressure during busy times and improve accessibility for all users, including those attending games, training and community events.”
Adjacent to Pat O’Hara Reserve, the carpark is the final milestone in a $6.7 million redevelopment that has delivered two new basketball courts, a 463-seat grandstand, new floodlighting, additional toilets and changerooms, accessible pathways, and more.
The upgrades have met the needs of the East Perth District Basketball Association, whose NBL1 team, the East Perth Eagles, required additional capacity to return to their home venue for training and games. The redevelopment also benefits clubs and users of the sporting fields on Pat O’Hara Reserve, including the Perth Bayswater Rugby Union Club.
The project received $2 million from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through the Community Sport and Recreation Facility Fund, with additional support from the Member for Morley, the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, and the City’s $5.1 million stimulus package.
