Lacrosse players at Halliday Park in Bayswater can now compete at night under new LED floodlights, following a major upgrade by the City of Bayswater.
The $259,000 project, funded by the City of Bayswater and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through its Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), replaces outdated metal halide floodlights with energy-efficient LED lighting.
Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the new lights improve player safety, performance and scheduling flexibility for the Bayswater Lacrosse Club.
“These upgrades give Bayswater Lacrosse Club access to professional standard lighting, making night matches possible for the first time and creating more opportunities for players at all levels,” she said.
“Lacrosse is a fast-paced sport that demands precision, quick reflexes and strong lighting. The improved floodlights allow women’s, men’s and youth teams to play safely at night while helping the club schedule more games over the weekend.
“Halliday Park also serves as a key training base for WA Lacrosse, supporting player development and high-performance training. The improved lighting will create better training conditions and encourage more people to get involved in the sport.”
The upgrade delivers 200 lux for training and 300 lux for matches, meeting Australian standards for lacrosse lighting. The project included removing six old light poles, installing four new footings and poles, and adding 24 new LED light fittings.
The new floodlights reduce energy consumption and lower operational costs, supporting the City’s commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2030 through its Emission Reduction and Renewable Energy Plan.
