Booklovers are invited to join the City in celebrating Library and Information Week from 28 July to 3 August by attending special events with WA authors Holden Sheppard and Gavin Aung Than.

Award-winning young adult author Holden Sheppard will visit Bayswater Community Centre from 5.30 to 7pm on Thursday 31 July for an evening in conversation with journalist Chenée Marrapodi. Holden will discuss his highly anticipated new release and first novel for adults, King of Dirt.

Primary school-aged readers can join best-selling author and illustrator Gavin Aung Than for an interactive workshop at Bayswater Library from 10 to 11am on Saturday 2 August. Gavin will share how to create comic book characters and talk about his new book, Creature Clinic.

The workshop coincides with a new look for the Library Service’s Bayswater Bilbies reader rewards club. Children in Years 1-6 are invited to sign up for the program to collect a new lanyard and rewards card.

Library and Information Week takes place each year to celebrate the important role libraries and information services play in our community. The 2025 theme, ‘To Read or Not to Read: Literacy Matters’, addresses common reading issues, such as limited access to books, low literacy and time constraints.
