The City has installed a new wheelchair-accessible swing at Bardon Park in Maylands, making the popular riverside playground more inclusive for children of all abilities.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the project reflects the City’s commitment to providing welcoming and accessible public spaces for all community members.

“Every child should have the opportunity to play, and this upgrade ensures that Bardon Park is a place where all families feel welcome,” she said.

“This wheelchair-accessible swing is important progress in making our play spaces more inclusive, and I’m proud to see it come to life.”

The project was approved by Council with funding secured through cash-in-lieu of public open space contributions and approval from the Minister for Planning.

The upgrade also included new accessible pathways and an ACROD-compliant car park space, carpark wheel stops, general landscaping, a bike rack, a new A-frame swing, an updated basket swing and rubber soft fall surfacing to improve safety and accessibility.

This project aligns with the City’s Access and Inclusion Plan 2024, which commits to providing equal access to buildings and facilities for people with disability.
