The City of Bayswater is working with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) following a fire at Morley Market early this morning that has destroyed the building.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the fire has had a devastating impact on local business owners.

“The Morley Markets are known as a multicultural hub and are well loved by our community,” she said.

“The Morley Markets are operated by small business owners who have been there for years.

"This fire is devastating for them. Their livelihoods have been destroyed.

“Our thoughts are with those in our community who have been impacted by the fire.

"The City will do what it can to support these local businesses at this difficult time.”

The City continues to work with DFES who is controlling the incident.

Morley Library has been established as a recovery hub. The City has organised for translators to be onsite at Morley Library and is working with the Department of Communities to arrange welfare support, counselling and financial advice for those impacted.
