At its Tuesday meeting, Council endorsed Healthier Bayswater: Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2026-2031, setting the direction for improving community health and wellbeing across the City.

The Plan will guide the City’s public health actions over the next five years, with a strong focus on encouraging residents to be active, make healthier food choices and participate in opportunities that strengthen community connection.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Elli Petersen-Pik said the Plan reflected the City’s ongoing commitment to creating environments that support healthy choices.

“This Plan will support our community to live healthier, more active lives – whether that’s through better access to physical activity, quality natural environments or opportunities to connect with others,” he said.

“The City delivers a number of evidence-based programs and services across our facilities that promote physical activity, healthy eating, mental wellbeing and social connection.

“It’s also about creating places that support health, from planting more trees that provide shade, to designing streetscapes and town centres that make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle.”

Deputy Mayor Petersen-Pik said actions in the Plan were not limited to the promotion of healthier lifestyles but also spanned public health issues such as the City’s response to waste management, community safety, emergency preparedness and mosquito control.

The City conducted community engagement to ensure the Plan remains relevant to local health needs and reflects community priorities.

The Plan was developed with input from the East Metropolitan Health Service and is aligned with the four key priorities of the State Public Health Plan 2025 – 2030: Promote, Prevent, Protect and Enable.

Implementation of the Plan will largely build on existing City services, programs and partnerships, and will be monitored regularly to ensure it remains responsive to community needs, emerging health trends and State priorities.
