The City presented its 2026 Community Citizen of the Year Awards to five Bayswater locals at a special ceremony on Wednesday 28 January.

The City of Bayswater presented five Community Citizen of the Year Awards at a special citizenship ceremony on Wednesday 28 January.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti congratulated the recipients for their commitment to improving the lives of others.

“These individuals have devoted their time to serving our local community and making the City of Bayswater a thriving and socially connected place to live,” she said.

“The City is proud to recognise the impact these individuals have made across the areas of mental health, support for vulnerable people and the environment.”

The City partnered with Auspire to present four Community Citizen of the Year Awards, in addition to its own Outstanding Women in Leadership Award.

Mental Health advocate Darren Peterson was announced as the 2026 Community Citizen of the Year. Darren has supported men’s mental health in the Bayswater community through his initiative Bayswater Blokes and his business Take Charge Wellbeing.

Senior Citizen of the Year was awarded to James Chantry for his work as Theatre Manager of Roxy Lane Theatre in Maylands, as well as his involvement with charity organisation Kiwanis Club of Perth and in establishing Bayswater Men’s Shed.

Young Citizen of the Year was awarded to Chloe O’Donoghue for her volunteer efforts across a range of initiatives including Rotary Interact and Anglicare Sleep Out. Chloe has also represented Western Australia at the UN Youth’s National Conference.

The Berringa Park Friends Group received the Active Citizenship Award for its work preserving Berringa Park wetlands in Maylands and for helping educate Maylands Peninsula Primary School students on the local natural environment.

Jessica Pooley received the City’s Outstanding Women in Leadership Award for establishing community organisation Safe Haven Essential Packs and preparing more than 1,000 care packages for people in need.
