Community members are invited to enjoy a day of free entertainment at Riverside Gardens on Sunday 9 August for the City’s 2026 Avon Descent Finish Line Festival.
From 11am to 5pm, residents and visitors can join support crews and spectators to watch paddlers and power craft complete their epic 124km journey down the Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River).
While taking in the finish line action, event-goers can enjoy a vibrant festival atmosphere with food trucks, market and community stalls, roving performers, live music and a traditional dance performance.
From an RAC rescue helicopter experience to up-close encounters with Australian birds of prey and freshwater wildlife, visitors can discover a range of attractions throughout the day.
Free family-friendly activities will keep all ages entertained, including carnival rides, an outback maze, inflatable games and face painting.
Families with young children can also visit a dedicated toddler zone with soft play equipment for those under 5 years, or try their hands at sensory play with the Freedom Fairies.
Those looking for a break from the action can unwind in a dedicated quiet zone with bean bags and yarning mats, facilitated by members of the City's Youth Advisory Council.
Parking, including ACROD parking, will be available at Riverside Gardens via Milne Street. Additional bike racks will also be provided for those cycling to the event.
This event is supported by Lotterywest and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ Plastic Free Riverpark program, which supports the City to eliminate single-use plastics at its events. Attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, cups and containers to help support a more sustainable event.
Dogs are welcome but must remain on a lead at all times.
