The City of Bayswater has been recognised as one of Western Australia’s leading local government areas for small business growth, with almost 800 new businesses established in the City over the past five years.
New figures from Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) show more than 30,000 new sole traders and small businesses were established across Western Australia between 2020 and 2025, with the City ranking among the State’s top 10 local government growth areas.
Acting Mayor Elli Petersen-Pik said the results reflected the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses to thrive.
“The City’s close proximity to Perth’s CBD and airport, combined with excellent transport connections, diverse retail and industrial precincts, quality sporting facilities and a vibrant multicultural dining scene, continues to attract new businesses to our City,” he said.
“These advantages, together with our commitment to supporting local enterprise, are creating a dynamic environment where many businesses can establish, innovate and grow with confidence, despite the current challenging economic volatility.
“We are proud to see the City of Bayswater recognised as one of the State’s leading small business growth hotspots and we’ll continue to work alongside our business community to foster innovation, support actions that aim to increase visitation and vibrancy, and ensure our City remains a sought-after destination for investment and enterprise.
“With other significant developments creating a positive impact in our City, such as the recent completion of new and upgraded train stations in Bayswater, Morley and Noranda, as well as the current redevelopment of Morley Galleria Shopping Centre, our business community is set for more success now and into the future.”
The City is committed to supporting local businesses and activating its town centres to create a thriving local economy as part of the City’s Economic Development Strategy 2025 – 2035.
