Young people aged 12 to 25 who live, work or study in the City of Bayswater are invited to join the City’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to help shape projects, events and initiatives that benefit local youth.
The City’s YAC is a leadership program that brings members together each month to share ideas, develop skills and work with the City to deliver projects that respond to the needs and interests of young people.
Acting Mayor Councillor Elli Petersen-Pik said the YAC provided young people with a chance to have their say while developing valuable skills for the future.
“Joining the City’s YAC gives young people the opportunity to represent their peers while building valuable leadership and career skills for the future,” he said.
“Members can build their confidence, connect with industry professionals, gain project and event management experience, and work alongside other passionate young people in the community to create positive change.
“YAC members advise the City on youth-focused initiatives and have partnered with the City to deliver Youth Zone – a weekly drop-in space for those aged 12 to 17 to connect and relax.
“Youth Zone also offers school holiday workshops, covering everything from screen printing, onigiri and mochi making, to movie nights and more.
“Currently, members are planning an exhibition to promote career opportunities and skill development for young people in our community.
“If you’re aged between 12 and 25 and want to make a positive difference in your community, I encourage you to join.”
The City’s YAC meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Young people interested in joining can express their interest by emailing yac@bayswater.wa.gov.au.
