Message from the Mayor
Our Feed Me Morley food festival returns this year. Join us in celebrating Morley’s food culture with an afternoon of multicultural flavours and music on Saturday 13 June. The City will also welcome Avon Descent competitors at Riverside Gardens with our Finish Line Festival on Sunday 9 August. Spectators, families and friends can soak up the race atmosphere and enjoy a range of free community entertainment. Find out more about both events on the opposite page.
The City is partnering with biodiversity educator and artist Angela Rossen for the Wonderful Bayswater Wetlands project. From May to September, we’re hosting free activities for all ages, exploring flora and fauna within the City to encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of everything these ecosystems have to offer. Activities include interactive discovery mornings and an exhibition at The RISE. Turn to page 4 to read more about this project.
First Nations culture will take centre stage from 5 to 12 July, as the City celebrates NAIDOC Week. Connect to Country with a community planting day and smoking ceremony or learn Noongar language and enjoy hands-on workshops making bush string or upcycling wooden objects. See page 5 for more details.
Winter often brings wet and stormy weather, so it’s worth making sure your home is ready. Head to page 11 for tips and contacts to stay prepared.
Mayor Filomena Piffaretti
