The City is marking National Reconciliation Week from 27 May to 3 June with a community art installation led by Noongar artist Sarah Weston at The RISE Maylands from 10am to 1pm on Saturday 30 May.

City of Bayswater Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the free community event provided an opportunity for residents to reflect on this year’s theme, All In – a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation.

“Guided by Sarah, this unique community art installation encourages people of all ages to come together to listen, learn and help create the artwork,” she said.

“Residents can also have a yarn with local Elders and the City’s Reconciliation Advisory Panel members.

“Reconciliation begins with connection and understanding. By preserving Indigenous knowledge and reflecting on Aboriginal history, we create a community that is strong, inclusive and connected.”

As part of the art installation, community members are invited to visit a pop-up at the City’s three libraries from 11 to 29 May to share their reflections and words of reconciliation.

The reflections and words of reconciliation will be incorporated into the art installation on Saturday 30 May.

In addition to these events, the City is participating in the Reconciliation Week Street Banner Project by displaying ‘Murrunpa’ from Noongar artist Melissa Sunfly on the corner banner of the City’s Civic Centre throughout National Reconciliation Week.
