The 2020 Blue Ribbon Club Awards Night was cancelled in line with safety measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19, however the City remains focused on supporting our community during this evolving situation and would still like to announce the winners. The City of Bayswater congratulates the following award winners who have been recognised for the wonderful contribution they make to the community;
Inspiring Club Award - Roxy Lane Theatre
Since moving in to the old Autumn Centre on 9th Avenue in 2018, Roxy Lane Theatre have worked tirelessly to develop a new home-grown community theatre by building a larger stage, re purpose rooms, erect lighting and set up sound systems. In the last year Roxy Lane Theatre have produced five full length plays and three one act plays.The one act plays went on to become a multiple award winner at the Hills Fesitval of Theate and the ITA Youthfest.
The membership base has increased by over 140 in the past year and close to 800 members are kept up to date with ‘The Roxy Report’. The theatre is kept busy in down time throughout the year with approved external theatre companies and community groups utilising the building.
Outstanding Volunteer Award - Tom Ballantyne
Tom has volunteered to coordinate the Lifesaving section of Central Aquatic since it began in 1993 and is the only club in WA offering swimming and lifesaving. This is only possible due to Tom's commitment. The opportunity for lifesaving at Central Aquatic has meant that swimmers have competed in National Lifesaving competitions and others have gained employment with the skills they have developed. Tom not only teaches, shares skills and knowledge to others, he actively mentors members to further their experiences.
Tom fosters fun in the sport with our bi-annual Central Aquatic beach days, camps and fun events at carnivals.Tom also volunteer’s as an official and was honoured as the 'official of the meet' at the recent Australian Lifesaving competition held in WA.
High Performance Athlete Award - Adrian Rogers
Adrian has represented CAQ at club, inter-club, state and national levels for over 10 yrs. He is a focused and dedicated athlete, training 9 days per week and most recently won 2 medals at the WA Open Swimming Competition.
Out of the pool Adrian is a respectful role model for members, mentors team mates and happily assists new and junior swimmers navigate at swim meets. Adrian also supports club coaches in developing the finer skills of swimming to all club members, encouraging swimmers to focus on specific techniques he has learnt from elite training squads and assists with club fundraisers.
