Parking in Public Areas

Our Community Safety team work 24/7 to ensure that parking in our community is an easy and safe exercise.

      Parking in the city

Our Community Safety Team works around the clock to help ensure that parking in our community is safe, accessible, and hassle-free.

Parking in the City is managed under the Parking and Parking Facilities Local Law 2016, which outlines the rules designed to keep our streets safe and accessible for everyone — whether you're using a mobility aid, pushing a pram, or simply walking through your neighbourhood.

These rules are in place to make sure our public spaces are shared fairly and safely. By following them, you help create a more enjoyable and accessible City for all.

Our Community Safety Team addresses a range of parking concerns, including:

      • Parking on footpaths and verges
      • Vehicles for sale on reserves
      • School parking patrols
      • ACROD and disabled parking
      • Timed parking in business and residential areas
      Parking at schools

      School Parking Safety

Parking safely around schools is essential — it helps protect children, reduces congestion, and creates a safer environment for everyone.

Here are some simple ways you can help:

      • Slow down and stay alert in school zones — children can be unpredictable, especially during busy pick-up and drop-off times.
      • Use 'Kiss and Drive' bays where available to keep traffic moving and reduce pressure on school car parks.
      • Walk or ride to school when possible — it’s a healthy choice and helps reduce the number of cars around the school.
      • Park further away in nearby reserves or shopping centres and walk the short distance — this eases congestion right at the school gate.

By making safe and considerate parking choices, you're helping create a safer community for our children.

      Who Manages Parking

Some parking matters fall under the responsibility of other authorities, which means our Community Safety Team may not be able to attend or take action in certain situations. These areas include:

      • Private property
      • Railway station car parks
      • Privately managed car parks

If you're unsure who to contact or have a parking-related question, our team is happy to help.
