Owners of vacant land, as well as owners and occupiers of residential properties are required to install and maintain firebreaks. All firebreaks must be in accordance with the Bush Fires Act 1954.
Firebreaks must be cleared and maintained between 1 November and 31 March every year.
Between 1 November and 31 March each year, the City's Rangers conduct inspections of all land within the City to ensure properties are fire-safe and to protect the greater community from the risk of an outbreak of fire.
Rangers will inspect approximately 800 properties across the City during the season which will be scheduled to prioritise known risk areas and locations.
Residents are also encouraged to report incidents of possible fire hazards on neighbouring properties.
