Economic Development - City of Bayswater
Draft Economic Development Strategy 2025 – 2035
On 26 August 2025, Council endorsed the City of Bayswater’s draft Economic Development Strategy 2025 – 2035.
The draft strategy sets the direction for the next decade to:
- Attract new investment
- Support local businesses
- Create more jobs for the community
What the strategy is based on
The draft strategy was informed by one of the City’s most successful consultation programs, with 389 business responses and 48 community responses collected from across the City’s:
- Four town centres
- Industrial areas
- Commercial precincts
- Home-based businesses
Consultation included face-to-face interviews and in-language engagement to ensure culturally and linguistically diverse businesses were represented.
Why it matters
The City of Bayswater is home to more than 6,400 businesses – most of them small operators – and one of the most culturally diverse business communities in Perth.
The draft strategy builds on the outcomes identified in the City’s Council Plan, with a focus on:
- Diverse economic opportunities
- Distinctive town centres
- Sustainable, thriving businesses and employment
Progress will be monitored and reported annually, tracking growth in jobs, businesses and investment.
Next steps
The draft Economic Development Strategy will be advertised for community comment in October 2025 before being referred back to Council for further consideration.
