Bayswater Brief autumn 2024
Welcome to the autumn 2024 edition of the Bayswater Brief.
Message from the Mayor
I was delighted to recently launch our renovated facility at much-loved aquatic leisure centre, Bayswater Waves. Just in time for the summer holidays, we were able to reopen the ever-popular wave pool, which was refurbished along with the lazy river, toddler pool and pool hall. Final elements of the $11.6 million upgrade included remodelling the foyer, expanding the group fitness room and numerous access and inclusion improvements. The refurbished site has so much to offer and I am so proud we have been able to deliver this on your behalf. I encourage you to head along with the family and check it out.
Something very exciting is coming to Morley in March with the launch of our very first food festival. Feed Me Morley will celebrate the diverse food culture within the Morley town centre with a two-week food festival from Saturday 9 March to Sunday 24 March. Don’t miss the launch event, Morley Street Eats, on Saturday 9 March from 5pm to 8pm at the Progress Street Precinct and Coventry Village.
In this edition, you can read about the placemaking grants set to beautify our town centres. Seventeen successful local businesses and community groups will receive grants to help improve their shopfronts to attract customers and encourage visitors to linger longer.
Finally, I encourage you to join us at the Civic Centre on Thursday 7 March for Women’s Impact, a free, inspirational afternoon celebrating International Women’s Day.
Mayor Filomena Piffaretti
