The City has voted to host its Australia Day citizenship ceremony, awards and community celebration within the three days following January 26.
Last year, the Federal Government gave local governments the option to hold their Australia Day citizenship ceremonies up to three days before or after January 26.
Last night, the City of Bayswater voted to host its Australia Day citizenship ceremony, awards and community celebration within the three days following January 26.
The City surveyed community members on the option to change the timing of its Australia Day citizenship ceremony but no clear majority could be reached. However, feedback from the City’s Reconciliation Advisory Committee was that the days leading up to Australia Day were a time of mourning.
The City’s Australia Day citizenship ceremony, awards and community celebration is an inclusive event.
