Legislation

In 2017, the State Government of Western Australia announced a review of the Local Government Act 1995

As a part of this review, on 27 June 2019, the Local Government Legislation Amendment Act 2019 was passed by Parliament.

The Local Government Act 1995 provides the framework for local governments within Western Australia. The Local Government Act 1995 is an outdated piece of legislation. While there have been amendments since it was introduced in 1995, there have not been substantial amendments to reflect the changing expectations of the community or the advances in technology.
