Organising a community event in the City of Bayswater
Community events have the ability to bring vibrancy and cultural vitality to an area and can strengthen community bonds. That is why the City not only offers a diverse family friendly annual event calendar but also encourages community groups to organise events themselves.
Approval from the City may be required for some events and this page will assist you with your application to ensure your event is enjoyed by all and meets the necessary health, safety and environmental requirements. This new practice has been put in place to assist you with your application process. Feedback for improvement of this practice is always welcomed.
What are community events?
Community events are events organised by the community and for the community on either public or private land. This includes but is not limited to: concerts, festivals, markets, and organised one-off sporting events. It does not include private parties on private land, wedding ceremonies or funeral functions.
Do I need to complete an Event Application Form?
Events can provide great entertainment and opportunities for people to connect with their community. At the same time events can impact neighbours and businesses in the area. Depending on the impact your event will have on the surrounding neighbourhood and relevant legislative requirements, you may have to complete an event application form. This questionnaire will help you assess if you will need to fill out an event application form. It will also assist you in determining which forms you will need to complete and lodge together with your event application form.
Ensure a timely application
Most event applications can be assessed within 30 days subject to all the necessary info being provided by the applicant; however some events may require Council approval. For instance, if a donation from Council is requested or when planning approval is required. Council approval is also required when your event does not comply with noise regulations or when it is considered a major event of 5000 people or more attending. In these instances it is necessary to get your application in at least 60 days prior to the event.
