City of Bayswater residents can receive up to $500 for swapping their grassed or paved verge for a native paradise, as part of the City’s Waterwise Native Verge program.

Co-funded by the Water Corporation’s ‘Waterwise Greening Scheme’, the program encourages residents transform their verge with native plants, mulch and street trees to reduce water consumption and enhance local biodiversity.

From Monday 15 April, residents with a verge larger than 80 square metres can apply for a rebate of up to $500, with a rebate of $250 available for verges smaller than 80 square metres. Successful applicants have until Tuesday 1 September to complete their verge makeovers.

In addition to the rebate, the City is offering residents 10 native plants for the subsidised price of $10 through its Plants to Residents program.
