Call for Nominations for Community Representatives
The Aboriginal Advisory Committee (AAC) advises and assists in the development and implementation of a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for the City of Bayswater, with the aim to help the workplace to facilitate understanding, promote meaningful engagement, increase equality and develop sustainable employment and business opportunities. This is a new committee recently initiated by Council.
RAPs generally place a priority on recommending internal changes within an organisation, rather than on programs delivered to the community. This may include initiatives such as cultural awareness training for staff, increasing levels of employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff in the City and ensuring City services/programs are accessible and inclusive for Aboriginal people.
Nominations for up to five AAC community representatives are now open, for nominees who fit one or more the following criteria:
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members
• Individuals who work with or for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community on a professional level;
• Any community member who lives or works within the City of Bayswater or is regularly engaged with the Bayswater community, who is interested in reconciliation and its potential to influence the culture of the organisation.
Representatives are sought for the inaugural committee for a two year term from 8 November 2017 to 19 October 2019. The terms of reference for this committee are available from the City's website. Please contact Fiona Bentley on 9272 0695 if you require further information.
Nominations should be submitted in writing addressing the selection criteria and providing supporting information including your interest around Reconciliation and/or experience you may have had in this area. Any other information you think to be relevant may also be included and sent to:
