Community Training Program for not-for-profit groups back by popular demand

Posted on August 25, 2017
Due to the overwhelming success of last year's Community Training Program, the City of Bayswater is once again offering local not-for-profit community groups and clubs the chance to learn new skills and increase their social media presence.

Australian Model Railway Club President John Maker attended numerous training sessions last year and found them to be invaluable.

"I would highly recommend community groups take part in the City's free Community Training Program," Mr Maker said.

"Before attending last year's social media workshop our (the Australian Model Railway Club) Facebook page was a bit second rate. I knew we needed to promote our club but wasn't sure how. Since I attended the City's social media training workshop last year our followers have grown from a few hundred to over 2,000.

"The practical workshops certainly helped us gain and retain new members. We are now able to connect with model railway enthusiasts all over the country via Facebook and Instagram."

The Community Training Program comprises 15 free workshops that cover topics such as how to write winning grant applications, recruit and retain volunteers as well as using social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram to boost membership and build your brand.

Workshops will kick off on 30 August at the City's Administration Centre and will continue through until June 2018.

Mayor Barry McKenna said the workshops will benefit new or well established not-for-profit community groups and clubs as well as individuals who are looking for an opportunity to actively participate.

"These workshops will equip you with everything you need to know about starting and running a community group or club," Mayor McKenna said.

"We are really excited about providing our community with access to such innovative, practical workshops.

"I would urge clubs to book in early as last year's sessions were so popular even our wait lists were full.

"I am confident that in providing our not-for-profit community clubs and groups with vital skills we are supporting them in a tangible way. Upskilling our local community groups and clubs benefit individuals and the community. After all these groups work tirelessly on projects that benefit us all.

"We are proud to support our not-for-profit community clubs and groups through the provision of these exciting and informative workshops.
