Learning English Through Storytime (LETS) will operate over eight sessions and features stories, songs, rhymes and other activities which will help parents and children to practise and develop language skills. In addition, take home activities will assist parents and children in reinforcing their newly developed skills.
City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said that the City is committed to ensuring that all new residents feel welcome.
"The sessions being offered support this commitment by providing newly arrived residents with the opportunity to improve their English skills and help prepare their children for life at school.
“We are fortunate to have a City with so many different nationalities; each one has their own diverse culture which brings variety and richness to our City.
"The cultural and linguistic diversity contributes in a positive way to the quality of life we all enjoy," he said.
This family literacy program will assist children aged from 2 1/2 to 5 years to improve their confidence and help prepare them for school. The sessions will involve a maximum of ten families to ensure the facilitator can dedicate enough time to all those attending.
