City adopts Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan

Posted on May 14, 2018
At its meeting on Tuesday 8 May Council formally adopted the Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan following extensive consultation with the community.

Mayor Dan Bull said the Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan is a blueprint for future development in the area.

"The Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan builds on the back of the State government's commitment to fund the upgrade of the Bayswater Train Station.

"The Plan increases density in the town centre in a responsible way that also maintains the character of the area. It makes provision for more than 3000 apartments. This represents a 600 per cent increase in the current number of residential dwellings in the Bayswater town centre.

"The Plan also paves the way for the establishment of new shops, restaurants and small bars to complement existing offerings and add to the vibrancy of the area.

"The Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan balances the State Government's mandate for the creation of activity centres around key transport hubs with Bayswater's existing heritage and character.

"The City considered a range of factors in formulating the Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan.

"It is important that any development in Bayswater Town Centre is considered in a local context, in line with the typography and character of the area. The approval of this Structure Plan by the West Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) will ensure this occurs.

The City will now forward the Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan to the WAPC for final approval.

"In formulating the Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan the City undertook a large volume of work in consultation with the community.

"We look forward to the WAPC's approval of the Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan as a key planning document that ensures Bayswater continues to develop as a place where people want to live, work and visit.
