Councillor Column - More options for recycling

Posted on August 21, 2018

Eight convenient drop-off locations are now available throughout the City to safely recycle household batteries and fluorescent light tubes. It's really important that we dispose of these products correctly – throwing them in your bin means they will likely end up in landfill, where they can release harmful chemicals into our soil.

Recycling stations can be found at eight locations throughout the City, including Hawaiian's Shopping Centre in Noranda, Galleria Shopping Centre in Morley, and the City's libraries and recreation centres. Please remember to place your in-tact batteries and fluorescent light tubes loosely in the appropriate bins at the recycling stations, as bunching them together makes handling difficult and slows the recycling process.

More than 9.61 tonnes of batteries and 873 kilograms of compact fluorescent light globes have been diverted from landfill in the City of Bayswater in the past five years. With the help of these new recycling stations and our environmentally conscious community, it will be great to see these numbers improve further.
