Council has committed $5 million in its 2025/26 draft budget to redevelop the Frank Drago Reserve Soccer Precinct following the approval of a feasibility study and concept plan at its meeting on 29 April 2025.
An additional $5 million has been secured through a State Government election commitment.
Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the redevelopment would replace ageing infrastructure and deliver modern, multipurpose facilities for Bayswater’s sporting clubs and wider community.
“Frank Drago Reserve is one of our most popular sporting and recreational spaces,” she said.
“This upgrade will significantly improve the functionality and accessibility of the precinct for all users.
“It will support growing participation in soccer, particularly among women and girls, and give Bayswater City Soccer Club the infrastructure they need to meet National Premier League standards.”
The upgrades have been informed by community consultation and are designed to enhance the reserve for everyone who uses it. The space will remain open to the public subject to club and group bookings.
Stage One of the $18.8 million redevelopment includes:
- A new FIFA-compliant main pitch with LED floodlighting, a 250-seat grandstand and wheelchair spaces
- A two-storey pavilion with upgraded changerooms and amenities, commercial kitchen, kiosk, gym, administration offices and a 220-person function space
- Improved landscaping, parking and an all-abilities play area.
The City will continue to advocate for external funding to deliver the remainder of Stage One.
Schematic design work will begin in July to refine cost estimates and support future funding applications. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026/27.
Stage Two, planned for beyond 2030 and subject to funding, includes further upgrades to buildings, pitches, parking, community infrastructure and landscaping.
