Library membership is free for Western Australian residents.
Join in person
Visit your local library and bring along one of the following forms of ID, to show proof of your name and current address:
- WA driver's licence
- Bank statement
- Health care card
- Pensioner concession card
- Rates notice
- Utility bill (water, phone, gas, electricity)
- WA motor vehicle registration
- Rental receipt
- Lease agreement.
If you are living in temporary accommodation, or unable to show proof of address, there will be a delay in joining. If you are under 18 years of age please bring along a parent or guardian to show their ID on your behalf.
Join online
To gain immediate access to eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines and streaming services, and place holds on items in the library catalogue, you may join online. You can upgrade this membership to include borrowing privileges at a later date by presenting in person to provide ID, as listed above.

You can borrow a maximum of 15 items.
Items available to borrow include:
- Books
- Magazines
- Talking books
- Large print books
- DVDs
- Graphic novels.
You can also borrow:
- eBooks
- eAudiobooks
- eMagazines
- eComics
- TV shows and movies
Loan limits for eResources differ. For information on eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines visit the eLibrary page.
The standard loan period is three weeks.
Items in high demand have a loan period of ten days.
You can borrow items by:
- Producing your library card
- Showing photo identification
- Stating the PIN (personal identification number) for you membership.
Lost, damaged and stolen items must be reported immediately.

You can request selected materials from other public libraries by:
Restrictions apply to what can be requested from other public libraries.
You will be notified via email, SMS or mail when your requested items are ready to collect.
Items will automatically renew on the due date, provided that they haven't:
- been requested by another library member,
- been renewed twice previously.
Alternatively, you can renew your items:
If a tax invoice has been issued for an item, it can't be renewed.
Overdue notices are issued when an item on loan is past its due date.
If the items are still not returned, a tax invoice will be issued. Membership privileges are suspended until the items are returned or paid for.
Items on a tax invoice can't be renewed.
