2025 Community Planting Season

The City's 2025 community planting season has come to an end. 

Thanks to all of our community members and Friends Groups who helped lend a hand to help protect and enhance the natural biodiversity in our City.

2025 community planting day achievements

  • 14,000 plants put in the ground
  • Planting across 8 sites
  • 250 volunteers 
  • 750 volunteer hours

The City’s community planting days were funded by the Australian Government's Urban Rivers and Catchments Program and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions through the Swan Canning Riverpark Urban Forest Program and the Community Rivercare Program.

Lightning Swamp Bushland, Noranda

Not only is Lightning Swamp Bushland in Noranda the largest natural area in the City – it's also a Class A reserve, Aboriginal heritage site and home to a family of kangaroos.

Maylands Samphires, Maylands

Samphires are coastal succulents often referred to as the lungs of the river for their ability to store carbon, prevent riverbank erosion and support a healthy ecosystem for other organisms.

One of the most satisfying things about getting involved in our community planting days is watching the seeds you've planted grow for future generations to enjoy.
