Seniors Week

Seniors Week takes place each November to recognise the important role older adults play and celebrate their valuable contributions to our community. 

Check back here closer to November for the list of activites we have planned for 2024.

Seniors Week 2023 events

From 12 to 19 November 2023, the City of Bayswater celebrated Seniors Week these free events and activities.

Monday 13 November

Stay on Your Feet: Move, Improve, Remove

10 – 11am, Morley Library

Injury Matters WA will share tips to help reduce the risk of falls. This event is designed to promote health and wellbeing among seniors, helping them stay active, independent, and safe in their daily lives.

Dementia Without Loneliness – Presented by Michael Verde

5.30 – 7pm, City of Bayswater Civic Centre

Michael Verde, an internationally recognised thought leader in dementia care, will discuss the emotional isolation of people with dementia-related cognitive impairments and introduce communication methods to mitigate emotional isolation. 

Tuesday 14 November

Laughter Yoga - Facilitated by Laugh WA Inc.

12.30 – 1.30pm, Bayswater Community Centre

Turn your fake laughter into real laughter through hand-clapping rhythms, breathing exercises and laughter exercised. Laughter is effective at reducing stress and boosting the immune system. 

Card Making

1 – 2.30pm, Morley Community Centre

Create unique and personalised cards and Christmas decorations. All craft materials and afternoon tea will be supplied.

Wednesday 15 November

Free bus to Have A Go Day

Return trip from Community Centres to Burswood Park. Departing Morley Community Centre at 9.15am and Bayswater Community Centre 9.30am.

Buses will drop passengers back to the Community Centres at 3pm. 

Located at Burswood Park, Have A Go Day is an opportunity to come together to take part in activities and gather information for older adults. 

Presentation by GRAI – Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Rights in Ageing Inc

6 – 7pm, Bayswater Library

GRAI is a community-controlled, culturally safe, not‐for‐profit organisation working to ensure older LGBTI people are safe and welcomed wherever they are.

Thursday 16 November

Rock Painting 

12.30 – 2.30pm, Bayswater Community Centre

Join us for a relaxing afternoon of rock painting where you will learn how to create patterns in beautiful colours.

An Introduction to The Goodbye Guide

2 – 3pm, Maylands Library

The Goodbye Guide is a planning tool that can help you get your affairs in order, plan for the future and ensure your loved ones are able to locate important documents at the right time. 

Friday 17 November

Mind Theatre Murder Mystery Game for Seniors

Fridays 17 and 24 November, and Friday 1 December, 10am – 12pm, Bayswater Library

Join Eamonn from Totally Board and enter a world of mystery and intrigue with three sessions of an immersive and interactive role-playing game for older adults. 

Tai Chi

11am – 12pm, Morley Community Centre

Come along for a relaxing, gentle and controlled movement class. Beginners welcome! Please wear closed-in shoes, loose clothing and bring a water bottle.

Sing-Along Sundowner

4 – 6pm, Morley Community Centre

Kick back and enjoy a free sausage sizzle while two-piece group Senior Moments take us on a joyous sing-along to hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

Saturday 18 November 

Nans and Popsicles – Grandparents Storytime (all ages)

10 - 10.45am, Morley Library

Listen to guest grandparent storytellers and stay for a craft activity and a popsicle.
