If you are about to start a new business or you need some support to keep your business on track, it is important to get good advice.
Here are some useful resources for business owners.
Small Business Development Corporation
If you are thinking of starting a new business or expanding your existing business, the Small Business Development Corporation can help. Visit the Small Business website at the link below or call 133 140 for practical information and workshops.
As part of The City's commitment to supporting small business and our local business community we have signed the Small Business Friendly Local Governments Charter. This initiative, developed by the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC), formally recognises local governments that are demonstrating, or working towards, ‘better practice’ in engaging with their small business community. The City is demonstrating this commitment by:
- Waiving planning applications fees for change of use applications for premises on main streets (which have been vacant for more than 12 months).
- Allocating two dedicated place managers to work with business and enable place activation.
- Allowing new businesses to occupy previously vacant spaces for up to 20 days without planning approval (with a view to potentially extending this to six months to encourage activation).

Their support line is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm (EST). If you need their assistance, please call 1800 777 275.
