Changes to commercial waste services

On 28 October 2024, Council resolved to cease the supply of new and additional commercial waste services within the City of Bayswater. As a result, new businesses or businesses without an existing commercial waste service will be required to organise waste services through a private contractor. Additional bins will no longer be provided, and if the services currently at the business are insufficient for your waste management needs, the City recommends transitioning all existing services to a private waste contractor.

In addition, existing commercial waste services will be phased out by 30 June 2028. Engagement with businesses will be undertaken at a suitable time to assist in the transition to a private waste service provider.

If you would like to cancel an existing commercial waste service, please download and complete the relevant forms (at the bottom of this page) and email them to mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au.

Engaging a private waste contractor

There are several benefits of engaging a private waste contractor, including:

  • Onsite collection services, eliminating the need to place bins on the verge, which improves the streetscape
  • Waste receptacles with greater capacity than 240L
  • Collections more frequent than fortnightly for general waste and recycling
  • Tailored services that meet specific business needs, including collections for alternative waste streams (e-waste, cardboard, scrap metal, hazardous waste)
  • Direct contact with the contractor, bypassing the City as the intermediary and resolving issues in a timelier manner
  • Flexibility to adjust services as waste generation and disposal requirements change (seasonally or over time)
  • Competitive pricing with on demand collections.

The City cannot recommend specific commercial waste service providers. Below is a list of the WALGA preferred suppliers, alternatively you can search online to find more services near you. We encourage businesses to seek more than one quote.
