Bayswater Town Centre is home to a new sculpture by renowned artist and Bayswater resident Denise Pepper. Created in partnership with Bayswater Historical Society, the artwork pays tribute to the river, road and rail history of Bayswater, using timbers salvaged from the original Garratt Road Bridge.

The sculpture will be officially unveiled on Sunday 12 May at 10.30am in line with the Australian Heritage Festival.

Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said the City was proud to support projects that celebrate the unique identity of its town centres.

"The heritage listed Garratt Road Bridge is the longest timber bridge still in existence in Western Australia.

"Built in 1934, Garratt Road Bridge connects Perth's inner-east with our neighbours south of the river. It's great to see this significant part of Bayswater's history captured in a unique piece of public art.

"I would like to thank Bayswater Historical Society and Denise Pepper for the many hours of hard work they dedicated to this artwork, a piece that will be enjoyed by the community for many years to come."

The sculpture is located outside Benidgo Bank on the corner of King William Street and Murray Street in Bayswater.
