Community members, business people and local leaders are invited to mark International Women’s Day and explore the 2023 theme ‘Embrace Equity’ by attending the City of Bayswater’s free celebration, Women’s Impact, from 2–4.30pm on Thursday 9 March.

Taking place at the City’s Civic Centre, the event will feature a range of diverse perspectives from women in the areas of science, arts, government and public policy, and will open with a keynote address from leading medical researcher and 2023 City of Bayswater Community Citizen of the Year, Professor Sue Fletcher AO.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti will be joined by Dr Siddier Chambers, Professor Colleen Hayward AM and Jessica Herbert for a panel discussion and Q&A, sharing their stories of success and the barriers they have faced.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said she was keen to celebrate women’s success, and bring discussions of equity to the forefront of people’s minds.

“I’m thrilled to be part of such a diverse panel for this event, and to have the opportunity to listen to these incredibly accomplished women share their unique experiences, as well as share my own,” she said.

“I believe good decisions are made when a diversity of views are represented. Diversity plays a key role in achieving equity.

“When we talk about equity, we acknowledge each person’s circumstances are different. By acknowledging these differences, we can make decisions that help level the playing field.”

Following the discussion panel, afternoon tea will be provided and attendees will have the opportunity to network.

Recipients of the City’s Women’s Impact donation will then present details of their exciting initiatives supporting women and girls in the City, with the City donating up to $7,000 towards uplifting programs and projects.
