The City will officially unveil its $11.6 million upgrade of aquatic leisure centre Bayswater Waves this month.
Bayswater Waves receives 750,000 visits a year and is one of the state’s most popular recreation centres, with the wave pool a firm favourite amongst locals and visitors.
“I’m delighted to officially launch the refurbishment of this incredibly popular facility,” said Mayor Filomena Piffaretti.
“Our much-loved wave pool has been refurbished and is ready for kids of all ages to dive in and enjoy.
“We’ve significantly expanded the group fitness room, almost doubling the capacity, which will provide more space for our fitness club members.
“The talented Peter Ryan has added a huge splash of colour with a vibrant Waves-themed mural above our 25-metre pool with more artwork to come.
“Plus a raft of accessibility upgrades have been implemented to ensure the facility caters to all. These include improvements to the family change rooms and throughout the pool hall, such as new handrails and ramp extensions. Further upgrades have included retiling the lazy river and toddler pool, and redesigning the upstairs function room.
“Bayswater Waves is a community favourite and I’m so excited to welcome everyone back. The refurbished facility has so much to offer and I’m very proud we have been able to deliver these upgrades to our community, ensuring Bayswater Waves will provide for future generations.
“To celebrate, we’re hosting a reopening event on Saturday 17 February. Don’t miss your chance to come along and see the upgrades for yourself. It’s sure to be a fantastic day out for the whole family.”
