Water Management

Water is a precious resource and the City of Bayswater is currently recognised as a Gold Waterwise Council because of our commitment to managing our water resources efficiently and effectively.  The City also achieved Platinum Waterwise status in 2021 in recognition of our Waterwise Bayswater Strategy that integrates environment and liveability outcomes into our public open space and natural areas, our school engagement programs including a think tank session on ‘How Perth can become a leading waterwise city by 2030', and the Peters Place Micro Wetland project which was shortlisted for the Community Choice Awards.

The City participates in a range of initiatives aimed at reducing water use at City facilities, including public open spaces.

Our waterwise program is driven by a Water Efficiency Action Plan, which is designed to improve water quality and quantity outcomes. The aim is to become a water sensitive city that is resilient, sustainable, productive and liveable, with a more balanced water cycle.

The City has implemented the N2 strategy, which aims to:

  • Reduce our energy and water use
  • Lower greenhouse gas emissions
  • Empower our community to do the same.

HOW YOU CAN HELP SAVE WATER

Water is limited resource and we all have a responsibility to reduce our consumption. These simple tips will not only reduce your water use, but will save you money!

  • Plant waterwise native gardens
  • Use compost, mulch and soil wetting agents in your garden
  • Use low-flow taps and showerheads
  • Chose a water efficient washing machine and only wash when you have a full load
  • Only run your dishwasher when it's full
  • Check your reticulation for leaks
  • Fix dripping taps
  • Only water on your allocated watering days
  • Replace single flush toilets with dual flushing toilets
  • Limit your showers to four minutes
  • Sweep paths and driveways rather than hosing them down.
