We will be welcoming families back to live Rhymetime, Toddler Time and Storytime sessions in the libraries from 27 July 2020. To keep everyone safe some restrictions will apply and some changes made to our usual format. Keep an eye on our Programs and Events page and follow the City's Facebook page for further updates.

Writing Workshops - "My rules for writing" with Norman Jorgensen

After many years in the book trade as a bookshop owner, bookseller, and award-winning writer of books for children and young adults, Norman Jorgensen has collected together advice for young writers, (and those of any age) from many famous creators such as Nobel Prize winners Ernest Hemingway and John Steinbeck, and from megastar, JK Rowling.

In this series of 3 workshops he will be sharing 30 pieces of advice for composing your Great Australian Novel, picture book, biography or short story. The sessions will include tips on:

  • how to plan your story,
  • what to include and what to cut out,
  • elements of style,
  • how to make your reader fall in love with your writing,
  • how to submit your work to a publisher.

Most importantly, though, these are lessons on how to enjoy creating your own story and bringing your own style and sense of fun to the blank page.
