There's been a hive of activity around Bayswater and Morley over the past two weeks, with popular community events attracting thousands to the area. In addition to the City's own Autumn River Festival on 6 April, the City of Bayswater was proud to support two highly anticipated community-led events, the Baysie Arts and Street Fest on 31 March and the Progress Street Party on 7 April.

Organised by community group Baysie Rollers, the Baysie Arts and Street Fest attracted a crowd of over 10,000 people to enjoy live music, food, art and market stalls in the heart of the Bayswater Town Centre. The City was proud to provide a grant of $25,000 to help make this event happen.

The following weekend saw 5,000 people flock to the Morley Town Centre for a multicultural celebration at the Progress Street Party. The City supported local group The Morley Momentum by contributing $15,000 in funding as well as in-kind support.

Mayor Dan Bull said the City was proud to support community-led events that bring vibrancy to the town centres.

"I'm delighted the City has been able to contribute funding towards these events. The Baysie Arts and Street Fest and Progress Street Party reflected the unique identity of our town centres, and I look forward to seeing more community-led events like these in the future.

"The Baysie Arts and Street Fest and Progress Street Party attracted thousands of people to experience what our retail precincts in Bayswater and Morley have to offer, which can only be a good thing for local businesses.

"I would like to congratulate Baysie Rollers and The Morley Momentum on the overwhelming success of these events. Run by volunteers, both groups have worked tirelessly to put together fantastic events for the community to enjoy. Their commitment has not gone unnoticed."

Groups interested in running a community event are encouraged to keep an eye on the City's website for the next round of Major Town Centre Event Funding, due to open later in the year.
