Anzac Day

Councillor Column
Apr 24 2019

Courage, loyalty, compassion, mateship and endurance. The Anzac spirit is as significant today as when Australian and New Zealand forces landed on Gallipoli in 1915.

Long after the battles were fought, the spirit of the Anzacs lives on. It's reflected in our schools, on our sporting fields, and can be seen in how our community support each other in times of need. No matter our age or background, this sense of camaraderie underpins how we live.

On Anzac Day we come together to those who fought for the freedom we enjoy today. It's a time to reflect and give thanks to our defence forces, both past and present.

I encourage you to attend an Anzac Day service in your local community this Thursday, 25 April. Services will be held:
6am - Eastern Regional RSL Dawn Service, Halliday Park War Memorial (King William St).
8.30am - Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association Service, Maylands War Memorial (Corner Guildford Rd and Eighth Ave).
2pm - Bedford-Morley RSL, Remembrance Park (Corner Beaufort St and Salisbury St).
5pm - Sunset Service, Peninsula Farm (Johnson Rd, Maylands).

Lest we forget.
